Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Overview

Microsoft is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the PC and tablets market. They took a stand when they first launched the Microsoft Surface line and even though there has been some major ups and downs they have finally produced a tablet worth talking about.

Microsoft has been pitching "a tablet that can replace your laptop" and the launch of the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 has fulfilled all expectations. It has taken the success of the Surface Pro 3 and gone further to offer substantial performance.

The Surface Pro 4 for and Pro 3 look almost alike, but don't be fooled, what the Pro 4 lacks in originality of design, it makes up for in functional power. Looking at the beautifully polished Pro 4, you can't help but remember the simple beginnings of the Surface line.

At the start, Microsoft's line of tablets were ridiculed – worst of all 2012's highly disparaged Surface RT - mostly because of the choice of its operating systems; the much-maligned Windows 8 and the severely handicapped Windows RT (now blessedly extinct).

But that's all ancient history because Microsoft has upped its game and has produced the go-to choice for those who want a tablet and a laptop All-In-One.

The Surface Pro 4 is outfitted with a sixth-generation Intel Skylake processor that massively boosts its 3D performance. The Pro 4 was built to re-distribute heat and thereby eliminating hot spots. The speed is naturally faster because the CPU - Core i5 and Core i7 chips - cools while it performs.

There are more than 500 new parts in the Surface Pro 4 says Microsoft. One of these changes is the increased resolution, which has gone from 2160x1440 to 2736x1824, above the reasonable increase required to retain Surface Pro 3's 216 PPI pixel density. The pixel density of the Surface Pro 4 is 267 PPI, and only a few large form factor tablets can beat this PPI.

Meanwhile just like the Surface Pro 3, the Surface Pro 4 comes with a choice of three processors. A Core i5-6300U, a Core m3-6Y30, and a Core i7-6650U. The change to Core m3 might come as a surprise to some people, but don’t forget that the Surface Pro 3 used the Core i3-4020Y. If you noticed the “50” at the end of the i7 version, then you are aware that this indicates that the i7 model was built with Intel’s Iris Graphics 540.

Having used the Surface Pro 3 tablet when it was initially launched, we can say with confidence that the Surface Pro 4 shows a host of small refinements that strengthens its position as the best Windows tablet -- if you don't mind paying extra for the necessary keyboard cover accessory.
